Hey Guys. Christopher Hussey. Thank you so much for tuning in. This is part two of a series we’re doing called “Three Essential Marketing Tools for Your Network Marketing Business”. Today we’re going to talk about the phone.
Let me give you a scenario real quick. Let’s say you got lots of leads coming in, right? And some of you actually have this scenario happening in your business right now. You got lots of leads coming in. You’re meeting some people. You’re reaching out your hand. You’re making those connections, right? A buddy of mine puts this so incredibly well; this is a human business. People interact. There’s so much technology in the world. There’s so much we’re not interacting with people. People love, love, love that human interaction. And the way you’re going to get that human interaction is you’re going to get on the phone.
I’ve actually had scenarios where I typed in and answered a free report or whatever you do online. Or I’ve actually had somebody reach out their hand to me and say hello and get my phone number; then I never hear from that person. Maybe they send me an e-mail. Someone in my position – I’ve got my network marketing business going; I’ve got my other business going. Things are happening. I get a million e-mails a day. So they send me an e-mail and they want me to follow up and get back to them. But if you call me on the phone, then I’m probably going to answer. That’s my business lifeline.
And it’s true with most people. You want to reach out and you want to actually put a voice to the face – a voice to the e-mail. Let the person know that you’re available that they can reach out to you. You want to develop that person interaction. The thing that’s missing, probably, in your network marketing business, if you’re not getting a lot of feedback and you’re not really building that rapport with people, is that personal relationship. You have to commit a hundred percent to reaching out to people on the phone and developing that relationship, and letting them know that you’re a real person.
I, personally, want to give you an experience that I had. I’m a fan, fan, fan of a gentleman named Ray Higdon and his wife, Jessica. We’ve actually met before in person. I drove over to a presentation he was doing. We are not in the same network marketing opportunity, but I wanted to meet Ray because of who he is online. And the other day I answered something of his. I wanted the report he’s putting out. I love what he puts out and he’s really instructive in my online business. And you know what? He actually had done a blog post where he said, “Jessica”, his wife, “is the person in our business who reaches out. And she actually calls all of our leads”.
And you hear people talk, talk, talk, talk. They say the words. But I filled out something of his online and that afternoon I get phone call. I don’t recognize the number, but I get tons of phone calls because I have stuff out for prospecting as well. And I answer the phone and on the other end of the voice she says, “Hi, is this Christopher?” And I said, “Yes, this is Christopher”, and she said, “Hi, this is Jessica Higdon”. And I was like, they actually do that.
The guys, like Ray, that are really making it happen online, they know what’s going on and you’ve heard them say it, but you haven’t taken that step in your business yet. You have got to pick up the phone and you have got to get back with the people you handshake with. You’ve got to get back with those leads that are coming in.
I’ll tell you a story. There’s another guy named David Wood. Now, I actually found David’s phone number and I called him on the phone. He lives in Costa Rica and you’re thinking, ‘this guy makes a ton of money. He’s running the Empower Network. He’s doing all this stuff. Is he going to call me back?’ David called me at 2AM one morning. Woke me up; I’m asleep. I had his number programmed in on the phone and he physically called me. He spent fifteen minutes on the phone with me because I was a lead.
Now, I was important to David Wood, who’s making all this money. I was a lead in his business and he physically got on the phone and talked to me. If these guys, who you know are doing so amazingly online, are actually reaching out on the phone and getting back to their leads, and you, who are building your businesses and trying to make it online, and you’re handshaking, and you’re getting leads, but you’re trying to do it all over e-mail and all over osmosis – you’re trying to read mines and kind of send out good vibes – but you’re not getting on the phone, don’t you think there’s a little breakdown there?
Right? If Ray and Jessica Higdon can get on the phone and call their leads back, and David Wood can get on the phone and call his leads back, what makes you think that you’re going to be able to build your business if it’s online, or offline, or a combination of the two without actually picking up the phone and developing those personal relationships?
So, I don’t know exactly what’s happening in your mind. But what I do know is that if you’re not getting on the phone and calling back the people you connect with, you are leaving a huge, huge chasm between the jump from making a connection to getting that person in your business. You have to get on the phone, you have to call those people back, and you have to develop that personal relationship.
Now, maybe you’re not good on the phone. I have a buddy of mine who is awesome at the handshake. He rocks. He meets tons of people, but there’s a falloff of him getting back on the phone. And he’s wondering, ‘Why am I not getting these conversions? Why am I not getting people into my business?’ You know, you may have to do some personal work. You may have to actually do a little work on yourself to get on the phone and actually have those conversations.
So, here’s my challenge. Action creates opportunity. Here’s my challenge. Somewhere in your life, today, there’s a list of people. Maybe it’s two people; maybe it’s two hundred people. But somewhere in your life, today, there’s a list of people that you’ve connected with. You’ve done it in a handshake. They sent you an e-mail. Something happened in your life to get a connection with this person. And you haven’t called them back. I’m going to give you a really quick way to get in touch with them – and you can connect it to another blog post that I did – and I want you to commit one hundred percent to reaching out to twenty people that you’ve connected with in your life today. Twenty – not five, not ten – people.
Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to text message them and say, ‘Hey, I was thinking about you. I wanted to get together and chat for just a couple of minutes. Where is a good time to call you today?’ Put your own spin on that, but text message those twenty people. Do it right now. Get that list; text message those twenty people. And what’s going to happen is those people are going to feedback to you. They’re going to feedback and they’re going to go, ‘Hey, this is a good time’. And I want you to get on the phone with those people and, if it’s appropriate, I want you to talk about your business. If it’s not appropriate, I want you to just be friendly. I want you to just develop the rapport with those people. Just let them know that you have a heartbeat too. That you’re a real person, that you’re talking person-to-person and just let them know that they’re important in your life.
The phone is an essential, essential piece of connection with other people in the world. And if you’re not using it in your network marketing business, you’re not going to be able to create and maximize the opportunity.
